Lloyd: So using the combinations Alt F3 in a document will tell me all of the
settings in a document, correct? Thanks.

Just as in WordPerfect before it, you press Alt-F3 to go into coded view. This
can also be set as a default view for DXP documents.
Since I don’t have ready access to a braille display when I am working on DBT
documents at home, and I use speech, I wouldn’t think of editing the DXP any
other way. I use Window-Eyes as my screen reader, but NVDA and JAWS can also be
used this way. The codes add some verbosity to the speech you get, but there is
no more guesswork as to what your braille will look like, not only regarding
paragraphs, but also font indicators, headings, lists, tabs and all the other
markup you get automatically from your Word document. From there you begin to
do your own markup. Obviously, if I am doing the braille for more than myself I
will emboss the translated version on my trusty RB40 embosser, then go back to
the DXP file to make necessary changes, then translate again.
Summary … formatting and style codes are your friend. Bring back WordPerfect
for DOS!

George:
I only know how to ask loaded questions. But anyway, I am wanting to know how,
if I open a word document in DBT, how do I find out where a new paragraph
starts (in English class in the 80’s, we indented paragraphs), and other format
items that would be identified by a sighted person. As a blind user, it is
difficult to know when a new paragraph begins. Hope that brought some
clarification to the question.

Hi Jerry,
This is a very loaded question.
Can you be a little more specific as to what information you need?

Hello all. Can anyone tell me the process for determining such document
formatting as font size, paragraphing, etc., in a word document that is opened
with DBT? Thanks.
