I agree with Rick and don’t really understand the issues swirling around
conversion therapy either.
However, I laughed out loud at Paul’s reflection on Alcoholics Anonymous. What
a well crafted second sentence – kudos to you Paul for your levity.

We should also ban alcoholic anonymous conversion therapy. We need to allow
the alcoholics to blossom in a garden of acceptance and explore their inner
beauty and cherish the freedom they feel as their minds are set free from the
destructive confines of sober narrow mindedness.

If the legal system allows a 10 year old child to make their own decision to
change their sex with hormones and or surgery without parental involvement.
Common sense would dictate that they also have the mental maturity to take
drugs, smoke, get a tatoo, watch porn, engage in prostitution , and any form of
sexual behavior with adults. In other words , stand back and watch a 10 year
old destroy his life before it even starts in the name of ‘woke’ freedom. “If
anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it
would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and
to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” Matt 18:6

Unhappily those opposed to early hormones, blockers, and transition generally
for kids have faced nasty attacks for years. Blanchard and Peterson at the
Clarke Institute in Toronto, once stalwarts of trying to hold the line have
both retired. Ken Zucker, world renown expert on childhood transition was
actually terminated by the Clarke after a rush of politically correct
choristers. A report noted for inaccuracies was used. He sued and recovered
damages. In other countries, from England and France to Scandinavia, those
opposed to or advocating strict controls have reeled under attacks from the PC
crowd. Even transsexual women, including myself, who supported controls were
attacked on the Internet and media. So, while it is true that some are aware
of their gender issues from a very early age, it is also true that other young
are swept up in a fad of sorts. Most kids who claim to be trans “grow out of
it” as they reach their twenties. The problem is that there is no way to tell
which is which. A mistake is a mistake for life and often there is no turning
back once the process starts.
The Zucker situation was instructive. He had been know as one of the very few
experts on childhood transition. His therapy was directed at questioning the
urge to change. The opposing side basically said “if you want to change, no
one should stop you”. A simplification, to be sure. Parents were encouraged
To be supportativeand not challenge children who said they were trans. Many
professionals were in favour of this approach. Zucker challenge that concept
and was thus accused of reparative therapy. This article gives a fuller
explanation of the controversy:

I don't know if any of you will find this offensive (I did), but those who are
trangendered may find it offensive, or at least insensitive, because some of
them insist they were aware shortly after birth and before they reached school
age that they were the opposite sex from the body they were given. Others
became aware of their transgender later, so it could also be offensive if the
age was given as 10 or even 15.
Thought about forwarding this for 2 days, and finally decided to do it because
it may stimulate some thought.
