Hi Guys
I'm looking for some information. To start with I'm a right wing leading
person and I know my opinion is different from many in this group.
I want to learn so please reply as if we were across the table having a
beverage.
My background thoughts are this.
Many years ago we had an ice age. The earth then warmed up and we had a age
of high humidity when diasaours roamed.
We have gone through lessor extremes in the last few thousand years but
there have been constant cycles of the earth heating and cooling.
A few years ago we were told to do things to avoid global warming. When the
earth then was in a temporary cooling period we were to prepare for climate
change. There is no doubt the earth's atmosphere is getting warmer. Glaciers
are melting and the arctic has less savier winters.
On to the present day.
I'm wondering if we are sacrificing our economy and lives in trying to
influence the world situation when we have such a small impact. Every time
India and China start up a coal fired plant the carbon released is
significanllty greater than the small reductions we can effect. When a
volcano explodes the carbon released is many times greater than any man made
items.
Our economy is being put in a handicapped position to other world powers by
our mantra to reduce carbon. We are in a country with a signifcant forested
areas that absorb carbon and produce oxygent.
We are now telling farmers not to use fertilizor to maximize food production
because airborne nirtogen is a carbon producer.
Wind farms and solar panels produce only a small amount of the electrical
demand.
The questions
Does the small man made efforts t redue carbon significantly reduce the
earths current warming cycle?
If trees live on carbon dioxide what happens to them if we reduce the earths
carbon content.
Where do we get the energy to drive electic cars or heat our houses.
Many are against pipelines. For those who want to reduce carbon isn't
there a demand problem not a supply problem.
I look forward to some answers that involve data as I think the emphasis on
carbon reduction in Canada may be a rush to do something that has little
effect. As we bow to those demanding carbon reduction are we afraid to say
"the emporer has no clothes".
