Book report

Thanks for the heads up. I'm a Louise Penny fan but writing with Clinton
can distort the process. I will hang out in three pines in the meantime.

Such was not to be...
Think of all the impossible and improbables of a Clive Cutler novel. A
Secretary of State who happens to be the mother of a son capture in
Afghanistan who who escapes as the terrorist leader went to university with
him helps. The others captured are beheaded. It just so happens that his
girl friend works for his mother, the Secretary of State. She discovers
the hidden meaning of a cryptic message, breaks into a high level meeting,
and so on. Shades of a B grade spy movie. And more, and more...
It is blandly written, in my opinion. A couple of typos are just
distracting but one would think a book by a Clinton and Penny would be
especially watched for typos.
Penny’s followers will be disappointed unless starstruck; fans of Hilary
might be thrilled and will react out of loyalty with praise.
The first pages are filled with major events. To introduce all the
characters and set the plot in motion, the choppy writing jumps around in a
confusing manner. There are simply too many unlikely events and
connections. An event in Korea is mentioned, but like other events in
the book, the readers never find out what happened. The pseudo Trump is
poorly developed with no surprises, the pseudo Putin and events around him
reduced me to laughter. For that matter, all the characters are bland,
verging on hollow.
I do not recommend this book.
