Subject: Alumni of Theta Chi
During my years at DSP, I also developed a lifelong friendship with a member
of Theta Chi - Ronald George Weldon. I suspect we likely met at an
interfraternity council meeting or something like that and we have been
friends for 52 years. Ron (or George or even Felix for those who lived with
him in our last year of University) was the master of maintaining
friendships and communication. I don't think there has ever been a six
month period in that 52 years where I did not get a phone call, an email or
a message from Ron just to catch up or check in.
Ron passed away this past week at age 71 while out on a walk to exercise his
new hip that he received about a month ago. He and his wife were out
walking and he fainted and fell over and was gone. He was a great athlete
and worked hard at staying in shape. I didn't know it but apparently men
over 60 that undergo a hip or knee replacement are at a much higher risk of
a heart attack for up to six months after their surgery.
I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not Theta Chi had an active alumni
association or perhaps knew anyone from Theta Chi in those days so that I
can pass the sad news of Ron's passing on to his brothers. Ron began his
teaching career in Edmonton but was retired on Vancouver Island years ago.
