Trish,
I prefer the "English" style sidebackers that buckle in under the trace.
If you use the "Boston" backers that go down to the girth, we suggest a ring on
the false martingale rather than looping over the girth. A snap can be used as
well.

  Hi Folks,
I'll get back on the 'pairs' bandwagon.
first question: When attaching the breeching to the 'yoke' strap (this is
the type of breeching that goes under the belly- not into the saddle/
breastcollar buckle), do you like to put the loop thru the saddle girth or
leave it hang down (just slightly so the horse can't get a foot thru it)?

2nd question: Why is your answer your preference over the other?

I've done it both ways, and can't really decide which is better, but thru the
girth is neater. Thought I'd get some other oppinions.

  Next topic:
Went to Martins auction this weekend, and one of my clients bought a nice
mini CDE vehicle- older war wagon type, but good for everyday knockabout
driving. She also bought a really cute Bronson type wagon for her 12hh welsh
pair (that are going to be trained). I also thought the carriage would be good
for the mini 4-up (later- much, much later...). See, the talk isn't ALWAYS
about tandems... however...
I also almost bought a new cart to drive my tandem ponies with, but it was
slightly out of balance with no real way of adjusting it - too bad... I'll
just have to use the one I just got fixed.

My carriage guy (isn't it nice to have your own carriage repair man in your
neighborhood- who makes house calls!!!??), came by to check the fit on my pony
pole for my 'Jadwagen' today. I was amazed at the super work he has done so
far. He had to splice 4 pieces of wood to get the correct shape for my pole (I
just HAVE to be difficult!), where it fits into the 5th wheel. He then hand
forged iron work. So, perhaps I'll actually have a pole that fits my ponies
(instead of using lots of extenders and LONG pole straps), by next week!!! Whoo
Peee!! I'll then get to put the new harness on as well.
  Happy trails,
  Trish
