Traditional carriage driving is done as usual with the whip in the right hand and all six reins in the left hand Achenbach style, and yes, big loops for the leader reins in turns. Actually for six, one first takes the usual (big) loop for the leader rein, and then takes a second (big) loop with leader and swing rein.
