Hardy, could you please describe this velcro strap a bit more for me? How
wide, long and how does it release if there's a problem? I seem to remember
having dropped a rein a time or two......!

Hardy, I need advice on not dropping a

No special trick there, just got to keep it in your hands :-)

Obviously you didn't lose the reins completely, which is good, and to prevent
that from happening I don't like the little string or loop over a finger. The
little leather loop is proper style for Pleasure Driving, but for marathons I
think it's distracting in my hand. Instead I used to run a velcro strap through
the end of the buckled reins and keep that around my leg, just to make sure, if
I ever would drop the reins for whatever reason, I would not lose them
completely. Later, when I drove with a seatbelt, I just ran the seatbelt
through the buckled end loop of the reins. (Seatbelt, one end attached to the
carriage, the other end wrapped twice around the back rail of the seat and then
end held by the navigator to be let go in case of need.)

And yes, I only use leather reins for proper grip (see Achenbach rein
handling discussion recently).

  Congratulations on a good event.
