Neil is correct,
You get 50% of your DNA from each parent…. But you and your sibling may only
get a small percentage of common DNA (same piece from mum or dad)
In theory, there is a chance that two siblings get exactly the opposite DNA
(very unlikely) and this would make them appear not related…
If your mother and father were both 50% English and 50% Europe West
One child may seem more English the other more Europe West

Malcolm
I haven't had any of my siblings done so I don't have a point of reference
there. My mum and dad have quite different ethnicity results. I'm guessing
(within the accuracy of the test) that given you get a different set of markers
from your parents than your brother that might result in each of you getting
ethnicity result skewed toward different parents???
In my case I'm taking "Europe West" to largely relate to the Norman conquest
and Scandinavian to largely relate to the Vikings.
Cheers,
Neil Bradley

[dps-chat] Ancestry DNA matches
Howdy all,
I know there are a few people out there with a handle on the DNA stuff but I
wonder if they can explain
How I am listed as a VERY CLOSE match Relation to my brother BUT our Ethnicity
results are quite different.
Me , 53% Europe West, 22% Ireland, 17% British, 6% Scandinavian
Him, 6% Europe West, 29% Ireland, 28% British, 28% Scandinavian
Now I know there might be different markers for Ethnicity and Relationship ,
but one would have thought that two brothers
Would have a similar Ethnic makeup. I know my Dad was my Dad because we had
identical moles on our chins and I’m sure Mum
Didn’t play around. He is the brother I am most like, physically. My older
brother and youngest brothers are very alike.
I know I am the odd one out as the three of them are brickies and I went to Uni
and worked in a laboratory. They hated school
And I found it easy.
