#122 August 1, 2009 from http://www.don-guitar.com Online version: http://www.don-guitar.com/currentissue.html Archives: //www.freelists.org/archives/donspatch/ First word, from Don: Hey, hey, we weren't so rushed this time so maybe I haven't forgotten anything, like I did the media section in our last issue. Speaking of which, is there anybody out there who enjoys the media section? Initially I used it mainly for newspaper sites but, by now, it's become a sort of catch-all for any interesting site which I can't quite figure out how to describe or classify. If you've an opinion on it, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Of course we're always thrilled to hear from one of our readers, on any topic at all, so if you've no opinion on the media section, that's ok, write and tell us something you *do* have an opinion about. :) See you next time, Don Our feedback form and contact info: http://www.don-guitar.com/contactme.html Don at myspace.com http://www.myspace.com/donguitar Don's blog. http://don-guitar.blogspot.com/ Lisa at myspace.com. http://www.myspace.com/81825549 Lisa's blog. http://thedirtgoddess.blogspot.com/ Section One by Don. I guess I'm in nostalgia mode a lot lately because I keep remembering things from my ill-spent youth and researching them online. Here's a song I recall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7HPqi5uVeo ...and here's the story behind the catch phrase. http://snipurl.com/obt80 [en_wikipedia_org] This was, for years, one of my favorite comic strips. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Katzenjammer_Kids Pogo was another favorite of mine. http://www.pogopossum.com/ http://www.igopogo.com/index.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pogo_(comics) It's all about multimedia. http://www.productionhub.com/ Do you have any idea what American troops are doing in Afganistan? Much of the time, neither do they. http://snipurl.com/obtjo [www_washingtonpost_com] I hesitate to call this 'new' math but it's certainly different. http://www.morenewmath.com/random/ Another fond memory of my youth was the endless hours I spent with my nose buried in books. Boys Life magazine changed my life by publishing the occasional Science Fiction story and I later discovered these. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Swift,_Jr. http://www.tomswift.info/homepage/ http://www.duntemann.com/tomswift.htm http://www.tomswiftlives.com/ http://tomswift.bobfinnan.com/ts2.htm Hawaii's Maui Ocean Center. http://www.mauioceancenter.com/ Lotsa online games. http://www.candystand.com/ Celebrating the work of women. http://www.workofwomen.org/index.php End of Section One. Last word, from Lisa: Funny, it's over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 C) most days here in Texas lately, but I must feel Fall close on its heels. I've been very interested in food and we've been cooking anytime we have we can grab a little time. Usually that's a big clue that Fall is just around the corner. Tonight we had Broccoli and Beef in Hoisin Sauce (my specialty) and Vanilla/Pear ice cream made with soy milk (Don's invention). Yum. Fusion is our thing. I'll try to remember to let y'all know how well my system of prognostication works. If we have an early Fall, I'm the Weather Lady forever in this house. Privacy Policy on our website. http://www.don-guitar.com/privacy.html Freelists.org Privacy Policy. //www.freelists.org/privacy.html The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as computer users, are software developers. The world's coolest computer, without software, is like a car without fuel. It might look great, but what can it do? It doesn't matter who produces the software you love and use regularly, the developers of that software need and deserve your support. A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox: New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get without cost on the Internet. There can be hidden costs for the unwary. Use a 'throw away' email address to register, and be constantly on guard against giving away personal information. Use a firewall, and provide only the barest minimum of information on questionnaires. ___________________________________________________________ Subscription management for this publication is available online here: http://www.don-guitar.com/subsmanager.html or here: //www.freelists.org/list/donspatch
