Don's Patch #94, May 15, 2008 from http://www.don-guitar.com

Online version: http://www.don-guitar.com/currentissue.html

Archives: //www.freelists.org/archives/donspatch/

First word, from Don:

I've been after Lisa, who's far more artistically inclined than I am,
to redesign our website for the last couple of years but she's naturally
been giving a priority to her paying clients and was having trouble
developing an idea she liked so when our friend and reader Roy
complained for the second time in four years about having trouble
reading some things on the site (he's such a crab, you know? :)
I sat down and redesigned it myself. Let me know what you think
Roy. If it sucks, write to Lisa, ok? *grin*

I'm typing as fast as I can and there's a big old storm brewing
outside. We've been under a tornado watch all evening. Anybody
with any sense would shut off his computer and finish tomorrow
but I don't know it won't be storming tomorrow so I'm pushing my
luck here. Anyhow, it's time for me to git out'a hyar.

A Little Humor.

An unemployed handyman looking for work jobs knocks on the front
door of a house. When the owner answers, the handyman asks if
there are any odd jobs the owner needs done. The owner says, "well,
I was just about to paint my porch around back. I'd pay you good
money to do it for me." The handyman agrees, and the owner gives
him a bucket of green paint and a clean paint brush. A little while
later the handyman knocks on the front door again and announces
that he's done. "But there's something you should know," he says.
"That car of yours isn't a Porche, it's a BMW."

A neutron goes into a bar and orders a drink. When the drink
arrives, the neutron asks how much he owes. The bartender
says, "for you, no charge."

Rene Descartes is drinking with friends in a bar. At the last call,
the bartender asks him if he'd like another drink. Descartes says,
"I think not" -- and disappears.

A 92-year-old man and his 90-year-old wife go to their lawyer's
office. The lawyer is astounded when they tell him they want
to get a divorce. "But you've been married for 70 years! What in
the world could make you want a divorce at this stage in your
lives?" "Well," says the wife, "we've been thinking about this
for years, but wanted to wait until the children were dead."

Last word, from Lisa:

Once again, I have to say we pack about three days into
every one, and I wouldn't have it any other way. This
weekend will be a very special treat, we're attending
a music-based get-together and fish-fry. Lots of
musicians will come and play as they please, hang
around with friends, bring and eat food. Some old and
dear friends will be visiting from afar and we're very
excited to see them again. Relatives will be coming
to take care of Mom so we're free to relax and have fun.
Of course we have a few more things to do but it's
so worthwhile.

Now excuse me while I go clean something...

'Til next time,

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as
computer users, are software developers.  The world's coolest
computer, without software, is like a car without fuel.  It
might look great, but what can it do?  It doesn't matter who
produces the software you love and use regularly, the developers
of that software need your support.

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get
without cost on the Internet.  There can be hidden costs for the
unwary. Use a "throw away" email address to register, and be
constantly on guard against giving away personal information.
Use a firewall, and provide only the barest minimum of
information on questionnaires.
