Don's Patch #67 from http://www.don-guitar.com Month, 1 , 2007

First word, from Don:

How many of you have blogs? Please send me a link to your blog
and tell me whether or not I'm allowed to publish a link to it
here
in the ezine. I'm still getting the hang of blogging but I'm
actually
beginning to enjoy it. If you don't have a blog, you should
consider
getting one. It's not like there was any expense involved.
If you have a google email (gmail) account you need only log in
http://www.blogger.com/start
and you're good-to-go. If you don't have a gmail account you can
get one here: http://www.gmail.google.com/
Just click where it says "Sign up for Gmail". An invitation is
no
longer required but if you'd prefer an invitation, let me know
and
I'll happily send you an invitation.

but there is a valid email link there. Don't be a stranger.

I had something of an interesting adventure this week that
started with
and email, from my friend Bill Lanoue, entitled "Easter
Cancelled due to
unforeseen circumstances" with this image attached.
http://www.don-guitar.com/photos/CancelEaster.jpg
I decided to use it in the ezine so I went looking for a link and
couldn't
find the image anywhere on the web. This image is as close as I
could
get: http://www.zelan.be/files/Image/big/easter_cancelled.jpg
But the really shocking was something else I found with a google
search on the words "Easter Cancelled". This is weird, that's
all I can
think of to say about it. I'm sure there'll be some loud
repercussions.

A Little Humor.

A lot of folks can't understand how we came
to have an oil shortage here in our country.
Well, there's a very simple answer.

Nobody bothered to check the oil.
We just didn't know we were getting low.

The reason for that is purely geographical.
Our oil is located in Alaska, California
Coastal Florida, Coastal Louisiana, Kansas,
Michigan, North Dakota, Oklahoma,
Pennsylvania, and Texas while our dipsticks
are located in Washington, DC.

Last word, from Lisa:

It's been a fun couple of weeks, diving into new gardening and
yard
projects. For the first time since I moved here, we're getting
rain almost
every day for two weeks. In Central Texas this is a rare and
wonderful
thing. The lawns and gardens are going nuts. In July and August
when
the temps are 105 degrees and it hasn't rained in two months,
we'll look
back wistfully and remember when the lawn squished when we walked
on it.

Continuing with the Master Gardener's course is a joy, I'm
learning
quickly with every class. I just love studying as an adult.
It's as
though everything sinks in and just makes sense, finally.

Life is good, love is wonderful.

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as
computer
users, are software developers. The world's coolest computer,
without
software, is like a car without fuel. It might look great, but
what
can it do? It doesn't matter who produces the software you love
and
use regularly, the developers of that software need your support.

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get
without
cost on the Internet. There can be hidden costs for the unwary.
Use a
"throw away" email address to register, and be constantly on
guard
against giving away personal information. Use a firewall, and
provide
only the barest minimum of information on questionnaires.
