Don's Patch Issue #2005-04-15 from http://www.don-guitar.com

Whew, I only thought I was busy during the last few issues. This
time I know I'm busy. Over the next few days I've got to get my
income tax return filed, complete this issue of the ezine, and
continue with the ongoing preparations for my wedding. Yes, I'm
getting married again. After the big event, I'll post some wedding
details and photos on my site and provide a link in my next issue
for interested readers. If you'd like more information now, send
me some feedback and I'll reply with details.

Remember, your input is always welcome. I value your suggestions
and comments, and I'm always willing to help you find answers to
your computer and Internet questions.

My feedback form: http://www.don-guitar.com/contactme.html

Yet another NotePad replacement.
http://www.badevlad.com/bdvnotepad_en.htm

Speaking of NotePad replacements, every new programmer needs
a first project to "test their wings" and a basic text editor is a
very popular choice. That's why there are so many of them but,
as you might expect, there are a few really interesting programs
"hiding in the herd". For a compact but full featured text editor
I like MetaPad. http://www.liquidninja.com/metapad/
For a tiny, fast, nicely featured editor I like TheGun.

Lastly, even though I finally broke down and purchased NoteTab
Pro for editing my web pages, this ezine is written in NoteTab

I don't "do" desktop themes. I'm utterly intimidated by the prospect
of installing so much stuff, but I downloaded one of these cool themes
just to get the screensaver from it. I like the entire set of TV programs
which American public television (PBS) simply calls the "British
Comedies" but my special favorite is The Vicar of Dibley and I'm now
using the Vicar of Dibley screensaver. http://www.beebfun.com/
"How did I do that?" you ask? After unzipping the file "dibley.zip"
into a folder, I located the file "dibley.scr" and copied it to the
appropriate folder on my system. Here's some additional information
on that subject, and on screensavers in general.

In the last couple of days Lisa and I have gotten a marriage

issue is a little smaller than average but only a little.
Yeehaw! The geek is on a roll. See you next time.

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as computer
users, are software developers. The world's coolest computer, without
software, is like a car without fuel. It might look great, but what
can it do? It doesn't matter who produces the software you love and
use regularly, the developers of that software need your support.

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get without
cost on the Internet. There can be hidden costs for the unwary. Use a
"throw away" email address to register, and be constantly on guard
against giving away personal information. Use a firewall, and provide
only the barest minimum of information on questionnaires.
