Is the wiki additionally protected by Apache basic auth (eg. through
a .htaccess)? DokuWiki tries to use provided basic auth credentials for
a login. Just an idea...

Yes, the wiki is protected by an .htaccess file.

So I guess, what you are saying, is that dokuwiki understands that I authenticate using the htaccess and then tries to verify the given user/password combinations with its own database?

..... checking ......

Ok! Thanks for your hint.

This is nice: The described behaviour is exactly what I had intended for my first dokuwiki setup (which is an older version of dokuwiki) for our intranet. It avoids logging in twice. But the old setup did not check the given credentials automatically.

BTW, is there any way to turn off this behaviour?

Currently it's a private URL and I would like to keep the .htaccess, but your suggestion helped me anyway!

Thanks for your help and for your great piece of software,

Niklas.
