Got a few minutes so I'm trying with the latest devel version
(dokuwiki-2005-06-09). I just copied over my current local.php file, so
spell check is activated. If I do not include
<define('ASPELL_BIN','"C:\Program Files\Aspell\bin\aspell.exe"');> and I
enter some text and click 'Check Spelling', the command line box briefly
flashed, the link turned to a blue 'Please wait...' and then an error
dialog box appeared:

An error occurred while trying to run the spellchecker:
Aspell returned an error: 'aspell' is not recognized as an internal or
external command, operable program or batch file.
I click 'OK' and see 'No Mistakes Found'. If I do include <define
('ASPELL_BIN','"C:\Program Files\Aspell\bin\aspell.exe"');> the error
dialog is different:

So DokuWiki is not finding the aspell binary? Could I move/install the
whole Aspell directory to a folder under DokuWiki and then give a
relative path so that DokuWiki will find it?
I should have mentioned it at the beginning, but yes I am using Aspell
0.5.x - I used the installer Aspell-0-50-3-3-Setup.exe and afterwards
installed two dictionaries. Aspell is in C:\Program Files\Aspell and the
dictionaries are in C:\Program Files\Aspell\dict. I've looked high and
low for 0.6.x win32 binaries, but none exist at the moment :(

Okay I added some more error handling, you should now get an alert box
with some helpful error message.
BTW. I believe the available Win32 Version of aspell (0.50) is not
sufficient as it does not have UTF-8 support. But first things first :-)
Get your version running then try to contact the aspell author for an
updated binary or compile it your self ;-)
