[dokuwiki] Temporarily switch settings in local.php

I have a setting in my local.php file: [layout][show] = 1
Is it possible to switch the value of that variable temporarily by
clicking on a link? I'd like to temporarily switch it to
[layout][show] = 0. This change should stick around until either the
user click another link or the wiki is rebooted.
Any ideas?
