[dokuwiki] Displaying AD Groups / AD Users with Plain Groups

Good morning,
Does anyone "out there" have a Dokuwiki running successfully with the following
config:
$conf['auth']['split']['login_auth'] = 'ad'
$conf['auth']['split']['groups_auth'] = 'plain'
Is it even possible? (I know it works with "ldap" as auth instead of "ad" but
then SSO bites the dust).
Using only "ad" I am unable to display the members of my AD groups because of
an ldap_search problem (with the groupusers plugin).
