Applications Now Open for Upcoming United Kingdom Virtual Trade Mission
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development
(DMPED) and partners at the DC Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a
Virtual Trade Mission with the United Kingdom on October 12th and 13th from
8:00 AM-11:30 AM/EST. The purpose of the Bowser Administration’s Virtual
Trade Mission with the United Kingdom is to establish trade relationships,
explore investment opportunities, and promote tourism between Washington,
DC and the United Kingdom, specifically with London and Scotland.
*Why United Kingdom?*
- As a key partner of the District, the United Kingdom was chosen due to
its large pattern of existing foreign direct investment into the United
States and interest of further expansion into the District. United Kingdom
has the sixth largest economy in the world. In 2019, the UK contributed
$446 billion in total stock of FDI to the US, making it the fourth largest
source of FDI in the United States. In 2018, US affiliates of majority
UK-owned firms employed 1,271,100 US workers and invested $6.7 billion in
innovative R&D.

- ExportDC has opened its fourth round of support in conjunction with
the upcoming virtual trade mission to the United Kingdom. This round of
applications are open to small and medium-sized businesses in the District
who need support as they aim to utilize the upcoming virtual mission to
expand their operations internationally to London and Scotland.
*Eligibility*
- Small and medium-sized businesses operating within the following
sectors may be deemed eligible for ExportDC support: Healthcare/Life
Science, Fintech, Professional Services, and IT/Cybersecurity
