Florida, please consider buying my book, The Account of Cabeza de Vaca. It is
my own translation of an account written in 1540 by a survivor of a Spanish
expedition that attempted to colonize Florida in 1528. It not only one of the
oldest documents in U.S. history, but it is a fascinating tale of a man’s first
impressions of a new land and people and a sad tale of the hardships he and his
comrades endured. About half of the book takes place in present-day Texas. U.S.
history did not begin with English colonies on the Atlantic coast! In addition
to my original translation of Cabeza de Vaca’s account, this book also includes
my own analysis and commentary. It is available in paperback from Amazon or in
e-book format from Amazon or your favorite e-book retailer.
I’ve never been a self promoter. I just quietly do my thing and, if people
notice, great. Some of my friends and family who know that I operate this
mailing list have asked me why I’ve never mentioned my book before. “No one
will be interested in it,” I reply. “And I don’t want to bother them.” Well, I
finally decided it wouldn’t hurt. But I won’t make a habit of it.
