Being almost a founding member of Putmans group after having him consult on my
first MPD ( notice I still prefer that designation) patient, I have always been
more than grateful and honouring of your all carrying on the traditions of that
group!!!!!! Even though though I have not attended, I track your emails every
month and know that if I was ever in trouble with some MPD problem I would have
you as a Resourse if needed. It has been most reassuring to me to have you all
extant and there. You should have no second thoughts about being part of a
truly pioneering tradition!! Please send me a copy of your final draft of
whatever it is you are utting together. Cheers and Good Luck with what you are
doing. I am tracking you every month and don't take me off your list. Charlie

Walter,
I'll certainly insert Frank Putnam, MD, and "we consult on specific cases and
treatment options."
Regarding our origins, I feel a little uneasy mentioning that we are actually a
surviving remnant of the group Putnam started back in the 80's -- maybe even
earlier. I didn't start attending till some time in the early-mid 90's. It
would be true, of course, but I'm concerned that it might be taken as some kind
of trying to puff ourselves up. Let me hear from the rest of you on this. Or
we can just talk it over Friday.
We've settled on Matchbox, correct?

Dana,
Might add Putnam's full name, not just Putnam.
Might say how long or when we started.
Might add after "focuses on....trauma survivors." We consult on specific cases
and treatment options. (Or words to that effect.)

Sheila, and everybody --
OK, here's a combination of your suggestions, Sheila, and the wording I came up
with. I think it's certainly good enough and I'm ready to send it off to
Danielle Foote at the GWSCSW.
Any last minute suggestions welcome. I'm happy to be a contact person, or I'll
defer to anybody else who wants to do it.

The Dissociative Disorders Study Group is a clinical consultation group
which focuses on the application of various clinical approaches in the current
psychotherapy of trauma survivors.
We also believe that
dissociation is a common feature of a great many clinical presentations,
that it is seriously under-recognized by the general clinical
community, and that there is great benefit in meeting together with
other professionals with a similar understanding or interest.
We
use as a reference Putnam's basic text on dissociative disorders, but
have broadened our focus to the understanding and treatment of trauma
sequelae and the importance of shame as a core issue for so many of our
clients. In
addition to the explicitly dissociative individuals identified by the
DSM dissociative criteria: (amnesia, fugue, DID, depersonalization,
DDNOS) we discuss dissociative phenomena occurring in other diagnostic
categories, such as eating disorders, rage episodes, motivational
difficulties, depression, and sexual and relationship problems.
We're a small group of therapists, ranging from some with years
of practice with dissociative clients to some recognizing a need to know
more about this dimension of our field. We meet the first Friday of the month
from 7:30 to 9:30 in
Rockville, and 2-hour category II CEUs are awarded for sessions attended
in a year.
We would welcome inquiries from any interested professional.

Caron- Are you still willing to reply to inquiries?
