Tom, sonar itself isn’t too dependent on external libs, except the older visual
C, which is no longer being updated, so you should be OK by updating Windows 7.
You should be OK with Windows 10, but as Microsoft has been going crazy lately
with updates, I wouldn’t force/rush updates, again, unless FS has screwed
things up with recent installers/updates, JAWS should be installing any MS
dependencies as part of the update or installer.

Concerning my new daw, I'm not goiing to update anything on the w7 side, where
jaws16 resides, but on the w10 side, are you saying that I should have no
problems with any jaws2020 updates, or even any windows10 updates, for that
matter? And I still ask if any windows7 updates will affect my sonar on my
windows7 box?

O OK. Try updating it, especially any VisualC+ 2010 2013 and 2015 libraries.
JAWS should include these by default, but………
Make sure you have dot net 4.5.8 installed and up to date; if Windows 7 doesn’t
offer the update, download it manually from MS and install it. The latest JAWS
and FS reader require it, as many newer programs do.
Your new DAW is completely up to date, so you shouldn’t have any issues there 😊

This isn't my dual-boot w7w10 daw. This is my semi-retired windows7 sonar
machine.

Tom is this your DAW or your regular machine?

Subject: [ddots-l] sonar 8.5.3 and windows7 updates
List, I am trying to add/install Jaws2020 to my windows7/jaws16/sonar machine.
I know that sonar works only up to jaws16. When I tried to install j2020, I got
an error and Freedom Scientific said that I had to install all of the updates
for windows7 before the j2020 will install. My question is will installing
windows7 updates ruin my sonar or can I do the windows7 updates without
affecting sonar; thus, allowing me to add j2020 to my machine?
Thanks.
