Also consider any transmitting devices, such as bug zappers, twisty bulbs, 
Wireless Routers. Anything that can transmit can push noise onto a cable. 
Are you using 3-wire XLS (low impedance) or 2-wire high impedance cables?

it's like the kind of noise you'd hear if you have a keyboard plugged into
the microphone input, sort of a higher pitch with some static.  I'll put a
copy into dropbox so you can hear what I'm talking about.  Something else
that is interesting that I just remembered was when I was in sound forge,
and I'd hit CTRL+r to start the recording process, the higher pitch of the
sound, which is equal to b5 on the keyboard, this sound was more pronounced
than the static sound that is also present.  I'm making it a wav file so
there's no signal loss in the file but it's only 10 seconds so shouldnt' be
very big.
