Subject: [ddots-l] Victim of Versions
As many may recall, my DAW had a complete melt down after a long overdue
Windows update. In the end, a friend was able to copy all data from both my
SSD and my storage drive. As I have never used the Paragon Backup on the
flash drive that came with my system, a system restore from that was not an
option. My friend completely reinstalled the basics, leaving Jaws, Sonar,
Cake Talking, and all components to me. I did not know until he finished
that he had loaded a copy of Windows 7 Professional rather than Windows Home
Premium that came with my system. This has triggered a seies of problems.
My personal copy of Jaws is for Windows 7 Home and of course ran in
40-minute mode unless I used my dongle authorization from work. Using that,
I tried installing Sonar from the files I downloaded from my Cake Walk
account. Running just the initial setup generated a message, "Cannot find
the version of the program on this computer. Please install the correct
version before loading this patch." It was not a patch, but the main setup
for Sonar.
Lastly, I went to the Quick Start Guide provided by Dancing Dots and then
learned that Cake Talking works only with Jaws having the same serial number
as when Cake Talking was first purchased.
Needless to say, I am extremely frustrated and do not know what, if anything
can be done without reinstalling Windows and everything from the media that
came with my system. My friend meant well but when the backup did not work,
he assumed that I would want the most Windows features I could get.
All of this to ask, does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions other than
to beat my head on the nearest brick wall?
