David,
While on the trouble shooting road...have you tried lowering the bit rate to 16 as an experiment? Also, I read earlier today in a Sound on Sound article about Sonar (mostly about rex files) that it is recommended to turn the dithering to none. I believe that it is set to triangular by default. This seems to have cleared up a minor random occasional slight digital popping sound I was getting while using my midi keyboard controler.

Sometimes even if we have spendt a lot on a computer system (which I have also recently done), it is still very necessary to adjust buffer settings, latency, meter settings, uncheck unused drivers, and remember to use the F6 key from time to time. Sometimes things will sort themselves out too.
The trouble with computers is that, they're computerized...smile.

If your system was working well a few days ago, for example, you could try a system restore. I hope things work out.

Hi. Apparently, £1000 worth of computer isn't enough to secure perfect
audio/midi harmony. SfZ doesn't seem to like to play ball. I keep
getting a random error message about an "fatal exception" and
"unhandled" something. Sadly, I get something about "an error at C:"
but then the computer crashes and jaws stops talking and the only
thing I can do is reset the computer without shutting it down
properly. It totally seems to crash.

So, all I know is there is a fatal error happening. Sonar asks me if I
want to try and save an emergency copy of the work but then crashes
anyway and I have to illegally restart the computer, and use an
alternative to the perfect soundfont I'd just located.

Finally, I've got my soundfonts on my audio drive not the C drive. Not
that that should have anything to do with it. The other thing is I am
working in 24 bit recording and 32 bit rendering if that helps. Other
than that I am stumped.

Any suggestions?

Otherwise I'll just have to forget soundfonts altogether.
