Steve, I've been there. But someone else had to show me. So you're one up on me! Congrats. Stupid! I'm not even going to attempt to figure this one out, but here's the story on my screen resolution problem. Just for grins and giggles, as they say, I poked my nose into Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager. I opened the resultant tree view and scrolled down to Display Adapters. What to my wond'ring ears did appear but two entried for the same adapter! Having two other Dells in the house to draw on for experience, I looked into their system manager trees and their display adapter lists, and found only one definition for both machines! BINGO! thought I, remove or disable one of these, and either one of two things will happen--things will improve, or they'll go all to hell in a handbasket! What's a guy to lose? If they go down the tubes, I can restore from an image backup taken just last night. With trepidation, I disabled the second instance of the driver installation, rebooted the system, and hey ho, wudda ya know, it came up, JAWS spoke, and when I went to Control Panel | Display | Settings, no crash, and hey ho, guess what else, I'm already set at 1024 by 768 and didn't even know it! I thought I was at 800 X 600 all this time! I am one super-happy camper! PLEASE READ THIS FOOTER AT LEAST ONCE!
