Has anyone looked at the free version in terms of accessibility?

Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Normal Audio Output in SONAR
Greetings John,
It is a shame that SONAR works less wel with WINDOWS 10 than WINDOWS 7 as
Microsoft does no longer support Win7. Concerning the audio output, I rather
wanted to wonder why SONAR users should have a DAW and install its audio driver
(pilotte en français) to use it. In other words, the sound for most available
soft synths and the audio track on SONAR come from the loudspeaker from the
DAW, rather than the computer (motherboard itself).
Thanks.
Adel
I could even say that those who do not have an external synthesizer may use
SONAR like a true synth, because on SONAR you could control the midi effects,
but not always on a traditional synthesizer. Users can record anything, whereas

Yes, Windows 7 is no longer supported and that is why newer hardware won’t work
with it, etc.
As for why the built in synth sounds don’t come through the speakers. This is a
question that involves a lot of different things to understand . Basically, if
I thin that I understand what you are asking at least somewhat… the built in
sounds are not available unless you have a MIDI accuator to access and
manipulate them. Usually, this is simply a MIDI keyboard controller. Once you
were to connect one of these devices through a MIDI interface (often not
provided on many interfaces) you really can’t hear these sounds/instruments.
Your question is a little confusing because you seem to be asking why the sound
comes through the motherboard (?) and not the speakers. I don’t think you mean
that there is an old style motherboard speaker on your system but again, I’m
not sure… so I don’t know if I have even approached your question correctly.

Greetings John,
I first would like to thank you for explaining this contaction’s meaning,
knowing that PC stands for personal computer. Adding I means Peripheral
Component Interconnect.
According to your email, SONAR and the CakeTalk scripts work better on Windows
7 than later versions, I mean Windows 10, for example. If so, Windows 7 would
be more accessible for the visually impaired to record their projects, although
Windows 7 is perhaps no longer available as it is somehow old-fashioned
(perhaps ten years old) and Microsoft probably does not support it anymore, as
some of you might have said.
By the way, I have in fact another question: could you or someone else tell me
why Sonar does work with the DAW and its microphones? In other words, the
sounds of SONAR’s available soft synths come from the DAW’s loudspeaker (excuse
me, instead of microphone), instead of the motherboard. And those who do not
have external synthesizer may use SONAR as a synth, with which they could
create their own sequencer and loop it.
Thank you.

Objet : [ddots-l] Re: PCI
Well PCI is a very early computer industry term. It stands for Peripheral
Component Interconnect. Computers have PCI “slots” on their motherboard.
There are old slots and new slots. I have no old style PCI slots left on the
motherboard of the Windows 7 computer on which my DAW resides. Sonar using
CakeTalk can not be moved to newer computers that use Windows 10. It must
remain at Windows 7, so I can not just get a new machine (laptop, or desktop,
or tower format) computer and upgrade everything to the latest software, and
hardware that would make recording so easy.
So, I will keep investigating the best way to go.
Thank for your help.

Allô John,
PCI, this is something I do not clearly understand. First what could mean those
letters? I think that you need to update yours to use your DAW and SONAR.
Encore une fois, j’suis désolé de vous poser tant de question car je suis
curieux. Hahaha!
Thank you.

Objet : [ddots-l] Re: Newer DAW Before Returning to Your 1010?
Adel,
No, it’s pretty certain now that the latency I had experienced when I used a
DAW with a 1010… that it was NOT the 11010’s fault. So, no, if I had a free PCI
slot, I would just find one and put it in the box right away… but this
particular box does not have any available old style PCI. Instead I’ll probably
look for this Saphire series interface that is being touted as very good, and
accessible even on Windows 7 which I am locked to because of CakeTalking. I’m
guessing there is a Saphire with newer PCI slot. If not, I’ll still probably
just switch boards around in my machine and get the Saphire since it sounds a
little more modern and less problematic than anything else.
As to money and DAW’s and music… no, unfortunately, I have no aversion to
spending whatevber is available on my lifelong love. It’s always been my
downfall, and I see no reason to stop now… belief or unbelief not withstanding.
😊

PS I always say when I’m building a new computer that “This time I’m going to
build the biggest, fastest most amazing system available… I usually do… and a
few months later it has been relegated to yesterday’s news by the latest state
of the art thing!
Like Spok said about military secrets… the same is true with music, “… that
technology is the most fleeting of all!”
So, this next go around, I’m going to just stick to whatever I must do to stay
with Sonar and Caketalking as I know it, and that locks me to a much older
technology than I want in many cases, but it isn’t *awful*, and it has always
let me make some pretty good music. Hopefully, this time I’ll be old enough
and mature enough to be satisfied with whatever that dictates, even though it
doesn’t have the latest bells and whistles! Acceptable latency though, is not
a bell or whistle, it is a necessity… so I have to get back to that level to
start with.
First thing for me to do is to abandon the front end mixing I’ve been doing for
the past few years with the big PreSonus board. Too bad, I did like it.
On the whole, it is certainly the least of what I’ve lost. 😊

Greetings John and the community,
Do you mean that you would search for a newer and better interface to avoid
latency, then revert to your 1010? You should understand that in this world,
money is important for living, but not too much: some say it is the
unbeliever’s god.
Thank you.

Yes, the 1010, that was its model…
Thanks to all who answered…
I was hoping that it was not part of the latency of that old system… Great to
know, but before I revert to that old unit, I will look into some of the newer
offerings suggested.
