I saw Chicago about two summers ago. I think they had one or two original members (the drummer I think, and sax player), and they were absolutely *amazing*!

Their old albums are, of course, really great and such a joy to hear!

Peace and health to all.

Well, just want you to know that before I got to this message, I finished reading your other note, and asked Alexxa to play Another Park, Another Sunday… yes, great tune.

John,

I thought your whole email was helpful!

I think I’m going to record the sound of a Lysol aerosol spray can and use it as a shaker percussion track on a song I’m working on.  Have fun guys!

Hi Stacy,

Funny, I rreejoined this list about two months ago for just about exactly the same reasons.  I used to use Sonar, and now I have reason to get back into using it again.

I have found nothing but help and concerned folks here… not too many… not too few… sort of Goldi-locksish 😊

A couple folks have asked me to ask more specific questions that might not apply to everyone by sending them to their personal addresses, but on the whole, I think everyone is willing to talk about anything music related… and I think that is great.

BTW, I went to a Doobie Brothers concert in Tampa in 1970, it had to be one of their first appearances, and it was great. Saw them again a few years later and they were even better. They tore the house down with a rave up version of a Byrds song, Jesus Is Just Alright With Me…

I recorded a couple of these guys when they played as sidemen for other artists at the end of the 70’s.

I do have some pieces  done with Sonar/CakeTalking, but nothing MIDI or synth based. I will dredge some of it up and point to it with links.  Of course my music influences go back quite a bit further than the Doobies… as a small kid, I loved everything in the 50’s… but the 60’s both the amazing opening years, and the truly unbelievable late 60’s shaped my tastes forever. As to that, I was lucky to have parents that played music from the 40’s and early 30’s movies with all those great songwriters add into my mix.  How’s that for going off topic pretty quickly. 😊

I’m not a long time lister here… did lurk on this list decades ago… but who cares, I can say welcome back anyway.

P.S. Here is something relevant to your post. Be sure that your new DAW does notemploy Windows 10… it must be Windows 7 if you want t use CakeTalking.  Windows 10 does not support the Windows Classic scheme and CakeTalking depends on that, so Windows 10 is out for the moment, and probably forever. I’m guessing you know this already, but just in case you don’t… I thought it could be the only helpful thing I could add.

Hi, all.  About 10 years ago I was on this list every day, mainly learning from all of you experts in the blind music field.  I seem to recall that I and others at work were spending too much time on the Internet and a big document came out along with site blocking software that ended a lot of Internet cruising and/or research while at work. And then later on, my 2006 DAW bit the dust.  Well, I am glad to report that I am getting a brand new DAW with Sonar and Caketalking once again.  I can’t wait until it arrives, and I will report to the list my ability to recall what I used to know.  Yes, I know that the softwares are virtually gone, but they can be obtained and still work well.  You just have to know the right people.  I will post more about this at a later date.

I’m writing this post to see if any of you have some of your recordings out there that you have recorded with Sonar.  Back when I use to record, I never had anything to compare my music with, except commercial CD’s that were magically compressed to be so loud at 0 db.  I could never get my stuff to be that loud without dulling things.  Anyway, do you guys know of any links that will lead to some recordings with or without soft synths.  Or has the music ended.

I want to get back into this list, but I also don’t know how many people are regularly on here.  In the old days, there were tons.  Is there just a few now?  Okay, yes, I’m talking too much.  Okay, so I’m going now to listen to the Doobie Brothers!  Smile
