I just wanted to report back that I believe I have resolved my issue with having difficulty using the Saffire Mix Control program to set up new mixes. Hopefully this information will also help others who might have had difficulties. I discussed this with Phil Muir and I also added a few new hot spots to the HSC sets that were part of the fix. I believe Phil intends to integrate these additional hot spots into his HSC sets for the Saffire Mix Control software as well as add some notes in the documentation.

Anyway, below is a summary of what is going on as well as some useful hints:

1. I am using the latest Saffire Mix Control program available from focusRite –I believe this is version 3.2 2. Previously when I created a new mix, I couldn’t get any output from the new mix even if the mix was properly tied to the appropriate output channels. 3. The problem is that, for each mix, there appears to be a master mix fader as well as a master mix fader value field (found by my sighted wife) for which there were no hot spots. By default all but mix 1 had the master mix fader value set to –inf – thus, no output.
4. So I added two new hot spots to Phil’s existing sets:
a. Control+shift+F = Master Mix Fader – This brings one to the master mix fader control for the mix being worked on. The fader can be controlled in the usual manner (i.e., double click to zero it, alt+shift+ up / down arrow to move the fader). b. Control+Shift+V = Master Mix Value – When pressed reads the value of the master mix fader 5. Also, here is another useful hint for using the HSC sets: One issue that people have run into with the Saffire Mix Control is that it doesn’t always open up in the right place and not all of the controls appear on the screen. Phil and Tim put some functionality and a warning into the sets to help deal with this.
I have found that one can resolve this issue by following the steps below:
a. Put a shortcut to the Saffire Mix control program on your desktop
b. Open the Properties of the desktop shortcut (right click or Shift+F10 and arrow to Properties).
c. Control+Tab to the “Shortcut” tab of this dialog
d. Tab to the “run” radio box and select “Maximized”.
e. Hit OK to close this dialog.
Now, if you open up the Saffire Mix Control program from the desktop shortcut, it will always open up maximized and fill the screen. All controls will be visible so the HSC routines can find them. Anyway, between adding the new hot spots and opening the program in the described manner, the HSC sets now work fine for creating new mixes. To create a new mix, I usually now go to the preset for Low Latency and start from there.

Thanks Phil (and to my wife Nancy!) for helping to work this out!

Chris, this is not the M-audio Profire 2626. It is in fact the Focusrite Saffire Pro range of interfaces. They haven't changed the control panel software at all unless they have done something very recently that I am not aware of. Have been able to set-up mixes here and copy and paste them with 0 issues. Also saved out various mix configuration snapshots and been able to easily load them back in again. That 0 latency software mixer with 18 channels is really great! Further more, liked the range so much that went out and purchased the Liquid 56. All I can say is WOW! What amazing pree-amps the Liquid 56 has! I have one of those and a couple of Focusrite MkII Dynamics. That gives me 24 channels of IO and 10 outs, I think. Now some questions for Pete. Pete, have you downloaded the very latest HSC sets for these? I updated them recently. What happens if you press the out link button? If you are told to drag the Window across then, this could be the issue that you are seeing. That issue is documented and we have a fix for that already. Pete, the fader is followed in the spot ring by it's value. You will need to use the spot rings in order to get good access to the sets. Feel free to give me a shout if you have any issues as these sets are maintained and updated on a regular basis.

Hey Pete, I hate to say it but I think your going to be s o l.

They changed the control pannel software somewhere down the line and broke phil's sets.

I hope someone proves me wrong, but when I had my bad experience with the profire 26 26 inaccessible control pannel, I said never again.

What good is it to get the best interface in the world if you can't use it, better to have something even average that you can use all the way.

Well, the mackie onyx i series boards are better than average, and they allow 100 percent control of routing, either by button presses and or good old fashioned patch cables.
It's that simple, or turning up aux sends.

Sell that fine piece of hardware you have, to a sighted dude who can use it and spring for a mackie, it's like magic frustration over in a short while.

A bright guy like you will learn the onyx in the shake of a cat's tail.

I know this means a little more expense maybe, but is your work worth it?

If it's not, then disregard this email.

This is not meant in the spirit of being a smart ass, only in the sense of how great I have found it to use a totally accessible interface and get all my low level i/o needs done with the least fuss and muss.

It really is groovy.

Whether I'm recording a singer song writer, or a whole band, that onyx board meets the challenge. And it brings all my external audio devices for skype, and speech and such together nicely.
