Hey, all.
Here’s my latest update. Let’s hear it for the big 5-0- the year of Jubiliee!
A couple weeks ago, I saw Neurologist Dr. H who ordered nerve testing for both
my upper and lower extremities. There’s no doubt that I have nerve damage due
to myelopathy - spinal cord compression. I’m hoping that next month’s nerve
tests will determine whether the worsened balance, numbness and tingling are
due to the residual nerve damage before my March 2020 surgery or new post
surgery nerve damage. By mid Dec, we’ll meet with Dr. H to discuss the results.
By the following month, I will meet with a Neurosurgeon to get a second
opinion. I’m hoping that the final verdict will be that no further action is
necessary and that I should keep monitoring.
Prior to my October MRI, I was pretty anxious thinking that I might have to go
under the knife over the holidays. While I’m not out of the woods, I’m hopeful
that this is something that I can just monitor for the time being. I could take
preventative measures and have many levels of my vertebrae fused. However, the
cost would be great and my range of motion would be limited. I’m hoping that
the nerve test and a second or third opinion will verify that no future action
is necessary.
And even if I don’t need another fusion at this time, I must not forget my
limitations. I often forget that I shouldn’t do any heavy lifting or should not
bend my neck down to the sink to wash my face. Although my biking days are
over, I’m grateful that I can continue to go on easy hikes.
Thanks again for keeping me in prayer!
