Utilities Literacy - Understanding energy and water.Building skills in the 
community.

Assistance for individuals.For individuals or families experiencing difficulty 
with utilities bills, no matter howsimple or complex the situation.
Case management support is deliveredby qualified financial counsellors who:•  
provide advocacy services•  negotiate with creditors•  explain and provide 
information in a way that will increasea client’s ability to manage their 
financial situation.
Most importantly, this service will keep clients informed, supported and in 
control of decisionmaking processes.

Information Sessions for the Public.Utilities Literacy Information Sessions 
provide valuable information on services available to assist manage household 
utilities.Topics that may be covered include: energy contracts, energy and 
water bills, running costs for appliances, and who to contact if xeperiencing 
financial difficulty.
The sessions also provide an opportunity to seek information froma variety of 
services and organisations such as:•  Financial Counsellors•  Energy retailers• 
 SA Water•  Energy Advisory Service•  Energy & Water Ombudsman SA.

Training for Community Workers.The Utilities Literacy team at UCWB delivers 
free training to community sector workers and volunteers to build their skills 
andknowledge of utility debt and usage.
Content includes:•  energy and water in South Australia•  reading meters and 
bills•  using energy and water efficiently•  getting a better deal from 
retailers•  concessions, complaints and hardship•  sharing these skills in your 
community.
This 2-day training will help you to help clients experiencing financial 
hardship.
Courses are held throughout South Australia.
