Inquiry into Palliative Care in Australia Sent: Tuesday, 6 December, 2011 7:11 AM From: "National Disability Services" <nds@xxxxxxxxxx> Inquiry into Palliative Care in Australia - NDS National News Update - 6 December 2011 The Senate Community Affairs Committee is undertaking an inquiry into the provision of palliative care in Australia, following a request from Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens Spokesperson for Ageing, Palliative Care in Australia http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/committee/clac_ctte/palliative_care/index.htm The terms of reference for the inquiry are comprehensive, specifically addressing: the factors influencing access to care, including the particular requirements of special needs groups including: people living in rural and regional areas; Indigenous people; people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds; people with disability; and children and adolescents; funding arrangements; effective and efficient use of resources in the various settings (such as hospital care and residential or community care); the palliative care workforce; standards; advance care planning; and funding for research, information and data. In the past, NDS has heard of difficulties some members have experienced when trying to arrange palliative care for people they support. NDS will be making a submission to this inquiry and is keen to hear from members in all jurisdictions about their experiences of working with palliative care services.
