From 19–29 January 2012, IMAX Melbourne is offering deaf
people and families with deaf children the chance to attend a free captioned
movie, as they trial the Rear Window Captioning (RWC) system.

The RWC system operates via an LED screen that presents
captions in mirror-reverse at the back of the cinema. Cinema goers use a clear
Perspex screen that can be placed into the position of choice, to reflect the
captions whilst enjoying the movie.

You’ll be asked to provide feedback on your experience of
the RWC system at the end of the film.

Seating is limited. Click here for more information and
booking instructions.

Help IMAX to get closed captioning right

IMAX Melbourne Museum is working towards the permanent
implementation of a Rear Window Captioning (RWC) system to enable deaf and
hearing impaired cinema-goers to enjoy both regular length IMAX documentaries
and Hollywood blockbusters on the world’s (3rd) largest screen.

To make sure it’s done well, IMAX Melbourne Museum is
calling on the community to help us to trial the system, by offering a free
movie to trial participants from 19 to 29 January.

Participants will be asked to use the system and then
complete a survey to describe their level of satisfaction with it.

The Rear Window Captioning (RWC) system operates via an LED
screen that presents captions in mirror-reverse at the back of the cinema.
Cinema goers can access these by utilising a special clear Perspex screen that
can be placed into the position of choice, to reflect the captions whilst
enjoying the movie.
