Have you got SparkFSTruncate turned on?
Using SparkFS here I have no problem with filenames up to 254
characters,
I've never actually tried anything longer rolling over into b8-b15 of
the
length as none of the things I do day-to-day work with use strings
longer
than 255 characters, or are happy filenames longer than 255 characters.
But I've got archives containing filenames such as
Emulators/BeebEmDev414jgh20180624/Src/BeebEm.vcproj.JONATHAN-PC.Jonathan.user
