It actually reached 116 here yesterday, although I didn't get a screenshot
of that.  Today is going to be an icy 96, so that will be nice.

I *have *actually experienced temperatures like this before, in The Dalles,
Oregon, where I spent most of my childhood. It's the edge of the Eastern
Oregon desert, and summers can be *very *hot there.  I remember a week
where the temperatures never fell below, I think, 95, even at night.  And
no one had AC there, either.  You just used fans and basically got used to
it.  It was always a super dry heat, though, which did make it more
tolerable.  Lucky for me, my childhood bedroom was also in our basement,
and it never got insanely hot down there.

The summer between my freshman and sophomore years in college, I worked as
a forest fire fighter.  Back then Oregon wasn't burning all the time, so we
also had to do other stuff like painting and cutting trails and etc.  I
spent one of those 115 degree weeks "working" outside at the Tygh Valley
Fairgrounds.  I don't know what they expected us to get done out there in
that kind of heat, but we sure didn't do it.

I think the hottest place I've been in was Malaysia. It was 43 C , don't
know if that accounted for the humidity which was horrendous. Of course we
tourists were spoiled with an air conditioned bus and  air conditioned
hotels everywhere we went. No such comfort for a lot of the local people.
Also no AC in my house. The upstairs gets very hot at night so I sometimes
go downstairs and sleep on the sofa, or just get up and read. No point
wasting time in bed and not sleeping.

Most people here don't have AC, because it isn't generally hotter than
Las Vegas or Phoenix here.
