SOVIET SUMMER CAMP June 5 ? 11, 2006, The Residency Center for Artists in Aizpute, Latvia INTRODUCTION ?Artists against technology standards? is a collaboration project uniting media artists, activists, engineers and curators from Baltic States, North Europe and Russia. The main idea of the summer camp ? artistic and creative expressions, hidden in the internal feelings and based on the skills developed in the specific life experience of the Soviet period. The keynote of the summer camp is the creative phenomenon of the soviet man ? the particular ability to realise the ideas with limited technical resources, discover different use of the everyday goods and make unusual objects for practical application. Program of the summer camp will include those works that form and unite specific subculture, semiotic, technical creation, folklore and perception of life of the soviet space. THEMES OF THE SUMMER CAMP - Manipulations with TV and Radio systems; - hacking hi-tech technologies, making them work as you wish; - creative, mechanical, technological or computing practices that challenge expectations through or results from unusual and imaginative use of technology. CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS AND WORKSHOPS LEADERS We invite media artists, scientists, engineers and practitioners from post-socialism and North-Europe region countries to apply for leading workshops, participation in workshops and/or presentations until 31st of March 2006. How to apply If you are ready to participate in the 1st Post-soviet Summer Camp, please send us an e-mail with: - your project idea (has to conform with one of the themes of the summer camp); - the list of the necessary technical equipment for the project, workshop and/or presentation; - already existing documentations that have conceptual link to the one of the themes of the summer camp (if applying for the presentation); - short bio. Expenses - Organisers cover participants and workshop?s leaders accommodation costs; - Organisers cover travel and visa costs for workshop leaders; - Breakfast for both - participants and leaders; - Organisers do not cover travel of the participants but can provide invitation letters for obtaining visas and for applications for local grants; - Organisers provide technical equipment for the presentations and workshops. LOCATION The summer camp will take place at the Residency Center for Artists in Aizpute, Latvia (around 50 km from the Baltic Sea).
