Falun Gong Rally at Chinese Embassy Demands Release Charles Li and Family
Members of Canadians Immediately!

Ottawa, March 23 2003 Canadian Falun Gong practitioners and supporters in
Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and other cities will gather at local
Chinese Embassy and consulates to strongly protest the illegal detention and
sentence of American Falun Gong practitioner Charles Li, MD detained in China
almost two months ago and sentenced to three years of jail term after a “show
trial” on fabricated charges last Friday.

Practitioners are also demanding the immediate unconditional release of the
illegal incarceration and ill-treatment of Family members of Canadians for
practising Falun Gong:
Mingli Lin, brother of Montrealer Shenli Lin, has been illegally incarcerated
for two years and was supposed to be released next week;
Jianguang Huang, brother of Canadian Citizen Limin Huang, after being released
from wrongly incarceration in a labour camp where he was severely tortured,
was thrown into a brainwashing center, where he is now being forced by the
Chinese authority to renounce and denounce the practice, which he firmly
refused.

Background
The Falun Dafa Information Center has verified details of 636 deaths since the
persecution of Falun Gong in China began in 1999. Government officials inside
China, however, report that the actual death toll is well over 1,600, while
expert sources estimate that figure to be much higher. Hundreds of thousands
have been detained, with more than 100,000 being sentenced to forced labor
camps, typically without trial.

Amnesty International calls all Falun Gong practitioners “Prisoners of
Conscience” for their continued non-violence in the face of evil. The Canadian
Parliament unanimously passed motion (M-236) to help free 13 Family members of
Canadians who are being incarcerated and tortured in China today.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a practice of meditation and exercises
with teachings based on the universal principle of
"Truth-Compassion-Tolerance." Since its introduction in 1992, it quickly spread
by word of mouth throughout China, and is now practiced in over 50 countries.

With government estimates of as many as 100 million practicing Falun Gong,
China's President Jiang Zemin outlawed the peaceful practice in July 1999,
fearful of anything touching the hearts and minds of more citizens than the
Communist Party. Unable to crush the spirit of millions who had experienced
improved health and positive life changes from Falun Gong, Jiang's regime has
intensified its propaganda campaign to turn public opinion against the practice
while quietly imprisoning, torturing and even murdering those who practice it.
