Hello Cathy:
You will remember that I have scheduled Don KB5VP Price to speak to CVARC about
DMR on Saturday 17 September at 6 pm in the Community Room of the Barre
Municipal Building.
The Steering Committee has not yet approved of this, but I would expect that
they should take it up for discussion and decision at the Tuesday 17 May
meeting.
Chris N1GBB Knox also knows Don and can lend his judgment about his suitability
as a CVARC presenter. Don has recently given DMR speeches at Ham Com in
Burlington and NearFest in NH and is the Connecticut Valley FM Association's
guru in DMR.
Cheers,
Allen W1AAT

Subject: [CVARC] News from RACES training
I attend an all-day RACES training session in Pittsford today, along with Alan
K1MZM and Ture Nelson KB1NBJ. Several pieces of information were shared that I
am passing on below.
-- Two hams expressed interest in joining CVARC. They are Jon Sturges KB1HQR
in Morrisville and Peter Knight AB1PQ, recently moved from Springfield to near
St. Johnsbury. Let's reach out to them and welcome them even further than I did
at the meeting. (I already pointed them at w1bd.com and explained meeting
schedules and locations.)
-- There are several events coming up where CVARC hams may wish to provide
volunteer radio communications. These include two bike races: the Grand Fondo
on June 4 and the B2VT on June 11. Contact Kathi K1WAL for more information.
-- A long presentation on DMR explained its capabilities in detail. Alan and I
both agreed that this looked like an exciting next step in radio technology.
Imagine being able to have "channels" on your repeater that connect you
locally, or to all repeaters in Vermont, or to all repeaters in Northern New
England, or all of New England, or all of the US...just by changing channels.
We should try to line up a speaker who can explain the opportunity in more
detail.
73,
Cathy
