Good morning all,
I hope everyone is doing well, staying healthy, and staying warm this time of
year. I wanted to give everyone an update on what the club is doing over the
next few months.
Foxhunt
You may have noticed there hasn't been much news about foxhunting this fall.
The automatic transmitter (or 'foxbox') had an antenna system failure and was
not working as intended. However, this and several other issues with the box
have been repaired and it is working fine once again. Thus, we will be hosting
one last foxhunt for the year as we continue on into the colder months. This
will take place next weekend, Saturday, November 13th starting at 10am in
Orange County. Give a listen on 146.565 MHz. Good luck to all!
December meeting
Our December meeting will take place at Norwich University in Wise Campus
Center, Room 228. As always, it will be the first Wednesday of the month - Dec
1st at 6pm. I will be doing a presentation on packet radio, which will focus
primarily on VHF packet and the history, operation, and techniques therein and
how it is used today.
Norwich campus policy states that all visitors must wear a mask indoors, so
please prepare to do so when you attend the meeting.
Directions to Wise Campus Center and parking locations will be posted to the
website closer to the date.
Packet radio
On the topic of packet radio, I brought up an item for discussion during the
November meeting regarding a packet station co-located with the Williamstown
repeater. Some ideas were a digipeater (either conventional packet or APRS) or
a full-service radio bulletin board system (BBS). I've created a thread in the
website forums, so leave your comments here:

VT QSO party
CVARC is also looking at putting a station on the air for the Vermont QSO
party. The actual details of how we can do this will of course depend upon
overall public health in VT, but we are tentatively planning an in-person
event. Right now we are looking into securing a location, but could also use
volunteers for operators, food, antenna team, etc. Please reach out to us if
you are interested!
That's all for now - 73 to all and see you next month!
