Ok - I've been dying to get this off all day. When I think about it I get
excited and happy! I think it's a tremendous step forward for summer club
swimming in Northern Colorado. The people there were generally willing to
work towards solutions and had some great ideas.

Before the meeting I had a call from Mike Novelle. He wanted to touch base
because there have been conversations with our coaches and Adam Hoffman and
the Rec Board. A & B Pools will be managing Collindale this year, so this
gives us a lot more flexibility with our time available with the pool vs
conflicts with swimming lessons. Nothing is set in stone - but know that
they are really working on flexibility. He has also taken our comments to
heart on the contract and is making those changes. I should have a new daft
in a week or so.

Now, the meeting itself. For the most part everyone was civil and Amy
conducted it very well and kept the discussion on track.

1. It was determined that a formal board will be created and have the
individuals elected and in place by May 1st. This may be a first iteration
- as the positions are not defined - nor are all the tasks the board will
take on. There will be 3-5 members elected in a rolling fashion (hat draw
for 1-year, 2-year and 3-year terms for the first time - something we could
think about as well). All kinds of details to work out. Seems I may be
destined to help hammer out another set of bylaws!

a. Janie was at the meeting last night, but a quiet observer. I didn't
get a chance to talk with her after the meeting but did send off a quick
e-mail to ask if she was willing to throw in her hat as a possible board
member. She said Yes!! Woo Hoo!!

2. Meet Scheduling - Rob Huey had a brilliant idea - working off Kyle's
format as well.

a. We will be breaking the League into 4 groups and those groups will be
determined by the scores at the City Meet the year before. There are now 21
teams in the League!! Fort Collins Country Club will always be in group 4
since they do not attend City Meet.

b. Scheduling between teams in a group will take place within their group
first (before the planning meeting) - and then they can go outside their
group if they need more at the planning meeting.

c. There are 6 teams in our group - Village Green, Nelson Farm, Willow
Springs, Miramont and Westfield in addition to us.

d. This was determined a better solution than to have a more static
schedule and does allow teams to schedule with whomever they want to swim
against.

e. I talked with MacKenzie after the meeting - and we agreed that
swimming against each of these teams + our intersquad and purple and gold
relay meet gives us 7 meets which is probably enough in the short season we
have.

f. We will be meeting with these teams on Monday March 30th at 6:30 at
Westfield. I am happy to be at the meeting along with MacKenzie, but if
someone else has an interest, that would be fine as well.

3. City Meet

a. It was determined that structuring City Meet like the State Meet would
provide more opportunity for smaller teams to garner some championship
points and a coveted trophy. I think it will be 4 groups - but determined
on number of entries.

b. It was determined that having several smaller teams host City Meet at
one of the larger pools would be too chaotic. However, there were
possibilities for revenue sharing discussed - such as someone taking on
T-shirts and such. It was thought that having a standard design from
year-to-year could help facilitate this sharing. This may not get hammered
out this year, but perhaps by the time Collindale is hosting again.

c. Amy has heard that people do not want to travel to Windsor for City
Meet - so that pool is out. The new Buckinghorse pool, while 6 lanes, is
too new and too small and too unorganized to think about taking this on any
time soon. So, for now it stays rotated with the 3 teams with experience.

4. Officiating - it was voted last night that officiating will become
part of our responsibility as swim teams. Denise Welting had the wonderful
idea of DQ'ing for Major Infractions - which I have a list of - that would
affect awards. Their time could be recorded to serve as proof of completion
or for progress tracking. Minor infractions can be recorded, and those
records then go to the coaches for training and teaching purposes, but not
affect awards, times or results. Officiating will be performed by parent
volunteers - not paid officials. (Funny Heather had one of the biggest
push-back on this since she said coaches are already doing this.).

I think that is about it. Again, I could not be happier with the outcome!
Your thoughts would be most welcome.

Have a great night.

-Heidi
