Director, Coalition on the Niagara Escarpment, p/t, Acton, Feb 27 deadline JOB POSTING Coalition on the Niagara Escarpment (CONE) Executive Director (part time) The Coalition on the Niagara Escarpment (CONE) is a not- for-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1978. Our coalition includes 30 member organizations as well as hundreds of individual members and donors. CONEs primary emphasis is on policy research and analysis, advocacy and public education related to the Niagara Escarpment, including monitoring the work of the Niagara Escarpment Commission. CONE is also the sole member of the Niagara Escarpment Foundation (NEF), a registered charity. We are searching for a part time Executive Director who will be the primary public spokesperson for CONE and the coordinator of the organization's operations and programs that work toward the achievement of the goals in our strategic plan. This will be done in accordance with established policies, guidelines and ethical management and financial practices. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. As the primary employee, the Executive Director is charged with leading the organization's efforts to build the coalition and network with like-minded groups, educate the public, uphold Escarpment laws and policies, plan and coordinate information and fundraising campaigns, and build and foster relationships with key decision-makers and media. Primary Responsibilities Policy and Communications * Implementation of CONE's strategic plan that includes an extensive communications plan. * Research and write CONE submissions on Escarpment protection policy issues. * Represent and connect CONE's mission and positions with the public, non-governmental organizations and all levels of government including at hearings and other public fora. * Build and maintain effective relationships with the media. * Meet regularly with elected representatives and other key decision-makers. * Write articles on Escarpment issues. * Coordinate production of CONE's quarterly newsletter. * Maintain/update CONE's web site and databases as needed. Fundraising: * Oversee and co-ordinate the implementation of CONE's fundraising plan including, but not limited to, grant proposal writing and cultivating individual and organizational donor relationships to foster long term relationships. Administration: * Overall administrative and financial management of CONE's operations including support to the Board of Directors, all committees and the NEF. * Recruitment, supervision and co-ordination of staff and volunteers. Desired Qualifications * A post secondary degree and relevant experience that provides you with knowledge and skills to carry out your responsibilities in an efficient and professional manner. * Creativity and passion for research and policy development. * Excellent writing and verbal skills. * Experience in media relations including writing of op-eds and media releases, organizing media conferences and acting as media spokesperson. * Experience in a professional or volunteer capacity in government relations. * Strong knowledge of the Niagara Escarpment Plan and land use / smart growth issues. * Strong administrative and financial management skills beneficial. * Experience in fundraising including grant proposal development and cultivating individual donor relationships beneficial * Experience working or volunteering in a management position of a not-for-profit organization. * Must have at least a minimum of an Ontario Class G license. Having your own vehicle is beneficial. * Strong computer skills. Programs used in this position include: Quick Books, MS Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and PageMaker. This is a part time position for two to three days per week depending on funding. Compensation is $17 to $20 per hour commensurate with experience. The Executive Director works out of the CONE office located in the historic town hall in downtown Acton. Flexibility in some working conditions (i.e. days worked, work-from-home arrangements) may be negotiated.
