I'd like to invite CSEW comrades to the NYC memorial for my mother, Veronka
(Vera) John-Steiner. As some comrades have noted, her work popularizing and
applying the ideas of early Soviet psychologist Lev Vygotsky, and participation
in anti-racist and radical movements, were relevant to a number of our concerns
and goals.
The memorial will be held on Thursday, March 15, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at the CUNY
Grad Center, Room 5409.

Condolences to San. A very thoughtful gesture for the CSEW to send flowers.
Vera John Steiner did important work. Along with Scribner and Cole she brought
Vygotsky's theoretical framework to English speaking educators with the
publication of Mind in Society and changed forever the way we think about the
process of learning. cb .

The funeral is tomorrow in Santa Fe; I spoke to Irina and asked if we as CSEW
could send some flowers in honor of Vera, who was an inspired scholar and
educator. Irina said that would be very nice.
Of course we have the interview with her centered on her research and work on
Vygotsky which has been scheduled for Marxism and Edu, and I hope we can get
this in print very soon.
