Solidarity with the teachers at four NYC schools where teachers walked
off today, in Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx!

They are in the Federation of Catholic Teachers. The walkout is part
of a "rolling strike" strategy in which schools are struck for one day
--others schools will be struck next week.

May Day is a great day for a strike!

Here is the report from NY! today (May 1)

Teachers at four city Catholic schools are walking off the job today
over the state of their contract negotiations.

About 90 teachers are set to take part in today's strike at St. Jean
Baptiste High School in Manhattan, Notre Dame Academy High School and
Our Lady Queen of Peace School on Staten Island, and St. Thomas
Aquinas School in the Bronx.

All four schools are within the New York Archdiocese and will remain
open during the strike.

The Federation of Catholic Teachers says it has filed unfair labor
practice charges against the Archdiocese's Association of Catholic
Schools.

The union says its members were told that if they accept a one percent
wage hike, the Archdiocese could be forced to close up to 10 more
schools per year.

A spokesperson for the Archdiocese says it is trying to reach a
settlement that makes sense for teachers, students and schools.

Another meeting with the union is scheduled for next Wednesday.
