If you recall, Anna is a teacher at a charter school in Oakland. She
was just in New York for a brief visit over the holidays and we got to
spend some time with her.
She was briefly a member of the group a year ago, and would like to
rejoin. She is now finishing her certification in her high school, and has
been an active voice with the teachers in her school. She is in agreement
with the CSEW program.
Yari and I met with her yesterday, and we talked about the struggle in
Oakland against school charterization; Anna will write a note on this for
CSEW, particular of how the cops roughed up both students and parents who
were demanding the charters be shut down.
We also talked about the conversations we are having in CSEW about our
struggles against segregation in the NYC schools, and how best to raise our
class struggle program in opposition to the frenzy of 'implicit bias
training' and CRT which is now so prevalent in the schools. Particularly
because NYC schools chancellor Carranza comes out of the Bay Area.
Anna will also do some research in how broadly this is being applied on
the West Coast.
I very much endorse Anna re-joining CSEW. Please vote on this and let
me know.
