After a hard and bitter struggle for her political survival, Amber Rudd,
the UK Home Secretary resigned today...the fall guy for the Prime
Minister, who introduced the targets in the first place when she was
Home Secretary. Just goes to show what Civil Service unions can do for
their members when a member of the government blames some of their
members for doing the job which they were instructed to do and which was
secret government policy. The Sunday newspapers were just too much for
her to hang on. Once a can of worms is opened, it is very difficult
to prevent them from escaping, a little crack in the stable door and all
the horses bolt.
Who knows...the government might not make it to the Brexit date...there
is a slight possibility of there being a general election soon as the
credibility of the government deepens and the real cost of Brexit
becomes clearer and the opposition grows. Confusion about political aims
increases, and the bombing of Syria at the behest of Trump and without
consulting the UK Parliament makes that credibility worse.
And with Trump coming to the UK in July, even though it is during the
holiday period...who knows what is going to happen. After all the
"Special Relationship" is now with France which is looking to replace
the UK not only with the dandruff cleaning exercise but in the EC too,
ousting Germany from being the top dog, and the UK could very well get
left out in the cold...
Reminds me of a famous spy novel...and see what happened to him when he
came back in...:-)
