Dear CQ STEM Hub partners,

Hi, the next meeting for the network is on Thursday 3rd May at 10am. We will be
meeting in the Rex Metcalfe Theatre in the LZB Building, CQUniversity Gladstone
Marina campus. Morning tea will be available for purchase after the meeting as
prepared by our Hospitality students in the Dining Room for those who wish to
stay and have a chat.

We will be discussing the successful Glad-STEM and Innovation Expo, plans for
EcoFest and plans for Science Week 2018.

Please find below information regarding upcoming FLL competition and below
that, details of how to remote in to the meeting.

Reminder registrations are still open for Tech Girls Movement and becoming a
mentor (details below).

Gladstone Central will be hosting a FIRST(r) LEGO(r) League Competition (FLL)
again this year after our very successful inaugural event in 2017. Our local
competition will be held here at Gladstone Central on November 3rd, 2018! The
theme this year is Into Orbit - Explore living in and traveling through space!
FIRST(r) LEGO(r) League competition is open to students aged 9 to 16 and all
levels of expertise, from novice to expert, are encouraged to enter!  This
includes novice teachers and schools - we are very keen to welcome all schools
to the competition and will offer support and training to anyone who is
interested.

For those of you who haven't competed before, there is a grant opportunity.

Want to inspire young people into STEM careers?
For just one hour per week for 12 weeks you can inspire a team of school girls
to be entrepreneurs and solve a problem in their local community by building a
business plan and an app.

This successful program, now in its 5th year, is designed to be run online.
Once you register, we will match you with your team of schoolgirls in the next
week (who may or may not be in the same city), for the competition to start
Week 1 on the 30th of April.

You don't need to know how to build an app, but be:
*  Female and work in a STEM*-related field (we invite men as technical mentors
- if interested pls also complete the form - and judges in August)
*  Have a passion for technology
*  Want to help a team of girls build confidence with technology and learn
hands-on entrepreneurial skills
*  Be available for 1-2 hours each week online from the 30th of April until
20th of July 2018 (13 weeks).
*  Are willing to guide the teams of girls to the information they need,
adhering to deadlines etc
*  Are willing to get a working with children check (blue card)

the next generation of leaders. Together we can build a workforce that is
capable of building the technology of the future.
