The off putting issue in mk9 is character tiers and how unbalanced the top
tiers are. If you play Mileena vs Subz. The game is pretty fair and fun to
play. So the mechanics are fine. And with the whole "style change" mechanic
they want to introduce in mkx. maybe scorpion can be played as a range
character? throw kunais etc.
Injustice, the game just doesn't hold itself as much in my opinion. Traits
(circle button) is a bad mechanic in general. Character uniqueness should
come from it's moveset, not just 1 button.
Injustice hype also died out pretty fast compare to mk9. But i think that's
due to characters more than game mechanics. The characters aren't as
interesting. Also the crazy + frame data is off putting.
Having environmental stuff is gimcky. but as long they don't just revolve
around that for gameplay, i'm good. Keep SOME of MK9 frame data and
punishment. Don't give every string super +frames. Same button layout (1,2
punches 3,4 kicks) and just focus on character balancing. MK9 was amazing
other than the imbalanced tier issue. So they did something right in that
game.
