They may have "good reasons" for not sharing, but I think an awful lot gets
lost when descendants who have no connection with railways clear out
Grandfather's or Uncle's house. Tired furniture and dishes to the goodwill
store, a few obvious family relics kept, and everything else in the
dumpster.
Sadly I've seen it happen myself. One of my uncles worked for CP on the big
hook. He photographed every wreck he worked at during his career. A few
years after he retired my aunt threw it all out - slides, negatives, prints
- the whole freaking lot. She couldn't image that anyone would be
interested that stuff and that was that.
