Hey Don - I was born & "drug-up" in Edmonton and I really prefer CPR! I think
my love
of the Banff area has a lot to do with this, and the model of Banff station on
my layout
would also have a lot to do with that! While I do have a large CN passenger car
roster,
due in part with my long association with Athabasca Scale Models, all my most
recent
modelling efforts have been CP models ( my model of an Alberta & Great Waterways
McKeen car not withstanding - I also like anything NAR! ). Doug Phillips has
been
showing up with lot's of material at our Thursday ROMEO lunches at Brewsters
Bonavista! So - my fascination with things CPR passenger has been quickly
growing!
Right now - the interest is centered on the "Chinook"! The NMRA 6 Div. March
meet is
taking this train as the theme for this up-coming event! And, Athabasca is
going to do
scale stainless steel etchings of the "CHINOOK" name plaque mounted on the
Jubilee
4-4-4 assigned to that Calgary to Edmonton run! We are hoping the BGR Group is
going to look at producing the "Chinook" cars! Another beautiful vest-pocket
train and
more wall-art for my train room!

It's certainly true that people who grew up primarily exposed to one railway
are likely to favour that one later. So for those who grew up on Calgary or
Edmonton, it is reasonable to predict they will tend to follow CP or CN
respectively in later life. But that can't explain everything about Calgary,
since so many people living there now came from someplace else!

Well that stands to reason with CPR creating Calgary and on the mainline and
now the headquarters of the CPR and I think that its what you grow up with
seeing. I have a love of TH&B I saw a lot of it as a kid. My dad would take
me to Leaside station so I was exposed to CPR . My mother was from Little
Current so I saw CPR when we went on vacation my first train ride was on
the Blueberry Express!! NOW MY DAD LIKED THE 4-8-4S OF cnr SO SUNDAY
AFTERNOON WE WOULD HEAD TO dANFORTH STATION, AND WAIT FOR THE 4PM TRAIN TO
mONTREAL AND WATCH FOR GREEN FLAGS. THEtrain usally had a northern up front
and it would have worked Danforth Hill then when it crested the hill picked
up speed by the time last coach went by it was really moving . We would look
down thehill in about 2 minutes we wouldsee smoke blasting up in the air
followed by a distant headlight this might happen 3 or4 times what a
show.One of my first brass engineswas a U2G 6213 Yes know it.s CNR but I
remember sunday afternoon at Danforth station with my mom and dad and our
cocker spaniel in the familly Rambler remember those things lol. I think
its what we saw as a kid that determines what we model later in life. The
way I see it DAVID HILL ps Why do you think on of the first models built was
the Turbo .Its what Jason grew up with.

There is also the notion that CN sells better in Edmonton and CPR sells
better in Calgary,
a regional differance!

I think you will find they really meant they sold BETTER in these areas, not
just in these areas. After all CNR did run in the west, and CPR did run in
the east. And I know their models sold in these areas as well, although I
would agree with their figures that CN sold better in the east, and CP sold
better in the west.

funny that Van Hobbies did CNR western engines so often 2=8=2 S2 Mikado,s
4-6-0 western . 2-8-0 oilfired western at least they did the e10 coal
fired at least they did eastern 6060.s and Northerns, 6400,s 5700,s
