The item that is most needed IMHO is a wooden Canadian
Pacific caboose. There are none on the market
available, other than the excellent Norwest kit (which
Actually that's not entirely true. There are three different makers of
urethane CPR wood caboose in HO - Norwest, Kaslo Shops and Sylvan. Then we
can't count out the many runs done in brass by Van Hobbies.
The Kaslo model is very impressive, IMHO. Take a look at the photos of the
Kaslo car that I built in the files area. I have seen all three models
built and they are very satisfying when completed but I think the Kaslo is
overall a nicer kit. Unlike the other two kits the Kaslo comes with jigs
and extra parts to make any configuration of the caboose you like.
And for those who like larger scales - there are S and O scale urethane
kits, too. I've been involved with Northern Model's O scale project. David
Nadeau tells me that that they will be ready sometime late September. I
can't remember off hand who makes the S scale model but I recall seeing one
earlier in the year.
And in case you haven't heard, there will be a RTR version of the caboose
coming. The CP SIG's Chairman, Dave Love, is involved with this True
Trains project.
So there're lots of CPR cabooses around. No worries about that.
