Your theory is possible. Of course the operating dept. might have
later decided to keep the RS-2s on the local and rotate the E-8s on
the Alouette/Red Wing.
Are the photos you mentioned from the actual year 1950 or from 1951
onward? The reason I'm asking concerns the two milk trains 769/770
which ran with both CP and B&M RS-2s. They were discontinued in 1951,
which would have made an RS-2 available for other duties such as the
locals.
